Rocking the house at Santa Barbara City College

The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour in California brought some ‘awesome sauce’ to the students at Santa Barbara City College (SBCC). SBCC is one of the most beautiful campuses we’ve seen, overlooking the Pacific Ocean and is just a few steps from the beach. We sometimes wonder how students find time to study when they’re just a few steps away from the beach!

We met some fantastic people, Melissa Moreno and Antwanette Ramirez from the Santa Barbara SBDC. The day before the event, we went wine tasting at Deep Sea Wine Tasting on Stearns Warf and had some excellent seafood on the pier.

The next day, students were excited; there were over 200 excited students who gathered at the Fe Bland Forum. Devin Lars, CEO and president of Doing Everything Different http://www.doingeverythingdifferent.com/ delivered a moving keynote, inspiring students that we can’t waste our time or our lives, and the best time to live your dreams is now.

WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY INSPIRES STUDENTS TO START A BUSINESS!

West Liberty University in beautiful West Liberty, West Virginia played host to an AMAZING Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour event on October 10th! University students created a standing room only crowd with over 150 people in attendance during the day.

Director of Entrepreneurship Carrie White enjoying the Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour!

Moderator EJ Carrion and entrepreneurial speakers Robert Nicholson and Steven Washington were very inspiring. Steven shared his story of overcoming challenges on the way to success, he is great at inspiring people to move past obstacles and reach their goals. Robert led the crowd through the entire business creation process, showing everyone how a simple idea can move forward into a brand new business. Local panelists Hugo Andreini, Leslie DeFelice, and Jesse Lenz provided insight into creating a business in the West Liberty area. They are all very knowledgeable and great entrepreneurs!

Of course, none of this would have been possible without Carrie White, the Director of Entrepreneurship at West Liberty University’s Center for Entrepreneurship and her team of volunteers. Carrie welcomed the team with a very good dinner at TJ’s Sports Garden and Restaurant. If you ever go there, we recommend any of the soups or a buffalo wrap. Carrie’s help and direction was a huge part in making the day such a success!

Merritt Tour Stop Teaches Students to Bounce Back

What do a round leather spalding ball basketball and two Extreme Tour speakers have in common?

No matter how hard you throw them on the ground they bounce back! Bouncing back and moving obstacle showed up as a major theme at our Merritt College tour stop. Ryan Woodley, 25 year old CEO of a Ferrari detail company Magic Detailings waxed poetic about the struggles of starting young, working side jobs and even being ridiculed while working as a substitute teacher.

“I moved to California without a plan and was broke for months before I got my big break.” His dream of working on Ferrari’s took many sidesteps including having to work on less expensive cars to make a name for himself. First time speaker Aaron Steed, who was a teenager when he founded Meathead Movers, a moving company that hires college athletes to deliver great service, openly discussed the pitfalls that burden new entrepreneurs.

“We were a moving company that couldn’t find a ride to our first job, it was nerve wracking.” The company overcame financial scares, and tests of their will to bounce back and become the largest moving company in California. A full auditorium of high school and college students were buzzing with enthusiasm after both keynotes. ”If I can fall down and get back up, I can be just like Aaron and Ryan, and one day I’ll be the one on the news” said Harley (16).

Quotes like Harley’s are why we here at the Extreme Tour love what we do, because on the ride to the airport the thought crept in all of our minds, what if one of those students didn’t hear the message today and stopped chasing their dreams and goals because they didn’t believe. Would the world be robbed of the next Aaron Steed?

Overflowing with Energy at SEMCA

The entire team was thrilled to be in Detroit, mostly due to our gregarious and lovable host, Pat. Pat was enthusiastic and proud to show the Extreme Team why Detroit, MI was the best city in the world.

Pre Event Dinner

The Extreme Team, dining with Pat in Greek Town - Detroit, MI

Her energy was contagious as we drove to Greek Town and walked through the Greek Town Casino for our pre-event dinner. The team had a blast talking about the goals for the next day’s event and what we hoped the youth would get out of it.

On the day of the event, we were thrilled with the turnout! The youth participating were from the inner-city of Detroit. For many of them, this event was the first time they’d let themselves dream beyond their bounds. I watched the faces of the youth while the foundations of their dreams were building in their minds.

Success! There is no better feeling than being able to put an individual face and a story with the impact we stive to make. The youth were fantastic and we can’t wait to hear more success stories from the SEMCA participants!

“Everything is big in Texas:” Entrepreneurship will not be an exception to this rule!

Upon landing in Beaumont, Texas, excitement for the event at Lamar University was a common factor for the Extreme Team members. We were graciously welcomed by our wonderful hosts Jeff Dyson and Deidra Mayer, whom invited us to experience Texas on a whole different level by eating crocodile in at Floyd’s, a local restaurant, that night!

'Team Awesome' - Thank you for all the support!

The event was successful in every way possible! This is not just as a result of the Extreme Team (or because more than 300 people attended, doubling the expected attendance – WOW!) but due the wonderful volunteers and staff at Lamar University!

Our speakers: Duane Spires, Steven Washington, Bo Kelley and last but not least, Kathy Reeves, did a great job inspiring attendees to reach for their deepest goals and strive for success.

One of the most rewarding things Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour gets out of each event is to realize the change in attitude of individual students after being a part of the Extreme Tour. It is hard to describe how wonderful it is to see that “light” turn on in each of them. That light which will brighten their way to TAKE ACTION, and to work their way into a better future.
